In 1835, Andrew J. Donald was in the militia in the Hard
Labor part of Abbeville County. In August, 1836, our Andrew J. Donald and Unity
Amanda Morgan were wed, and this family appears in the 1840 census with their
first daughter Elizabeth. Watson Augustus Donald was born in 1844. Watson’s
youngest sister, Amanda Gabrilla Donald was born about 1848, the year of the
death of Andrew J. Donald. So, in the 1850 census we find the Widow Amanda
Morgan Donald with 6 kids living in the Saluda Regiment portion of Abbeville
County, South Carolina. Amanda’s brother Davis Morgan had already taken his
family to Jasper County, Mississippi. That is where we next find the Amanda
Donald family in 1860.
