FRANKLIN COUNTY ARKANSAS


According to Donald oral history, brothers Brame, Rufus, and Austin Augustus Donald migrated to St. Paul, Madison County (north of Franklin County), Arkansas. No records have been found linking Donald & St. Paul. No adult named Austin Augustus Donald has been found. Rufus and Brame were sons of Watson Augustus Donald. The “three brothers” story appears to apply to sons of Watson Augustus Donald. This family was definitely in Franklin County, Arkansas, in the early 1880s.

Watson Augustus Donald’s land acquired on November 12, 1890, was 120 acres of land in Franklin County. It was located in northeastern Section 24, Township 11N, Range 27W, in Watalula Township. This is a mile north of Enon Primitive Baptist Church up Hwy. 23, then east at a road junction.  

Watson Augustus & Jerucia Bounds Donald had these kids: Fanny P. Donald, Oscar Mahlan Donald, Rufus H. Donald, Cora C. Donald, William Brame Donald, Vica “Vicy” Evelyn Donald, Myrtle E. Donald, Alice L. Donald, Katy May Donald, and George Walker Donald.  

Oscar (1871-1899) died of typhoid fever at age 28, and he was the grandfather of Oscar William Donald (1917-1991). Oscar Mahlan Donald had two wives: Martha Elizabeth “Mattie” Milton ; and Mary Ellen Morgan. Oscar’s kids by Mattie: James Arthur Donald (1891-1970), Dorotha Pearl Donald, Lillian Grace Donald, and little Austin Augustus Donald (died in infancy). Oscar’s daughter by Mary Ellen was Emma Ruth Donald, who was born just after her father died of typhoid fever.  Emma Ruth married Henry David Conklin in 1919.
