DONALD IN EARLY AMERICA

In the 1760s, Alexander and Margaret Dearest Clanton Donald were associated with land in Mecklenburg County Virginia and Northampton County North Carolina. DAR has an entry for Alexander Donald (d. 1806 Abbeville, S.C.) having been paid for militia duty. Alexander Donald (d. 1806, Abbeville, S.C.) was part of the later Donald movement from low country Virginia to the vicinity of Chester County, South Carolina, apparently before or during the Revolutionary War. Alexander’s will has been transcribed online.
