The parents of Jerucia Ophelia Bounds were William “Billy”
Crocker Bounds and Nancy Anne Freeman. Jerucia had several half-siblings by
Billy’s wife Araminta Drew Chapman. Jerucia’s Bounds ancestors had probably
been in America since the 1600s. This surname, with alternate spellings, has
long been present in England. It is probably not a single-origin surname, nor
concentrated in any one shire. Jerucia’s half-brother Pvt. John Chapman Bounds
was in the 37th Mississippi Infantry, Company K. This regiment was
made up of men from Jasper and nearby counties.
